The institution began in Numan as Hausa Bible School it was moved to Dashen in 1951. It was later upgraded into English training Bible College with English as the language of instruction from 1974 at Dashen to award Grade III certificates. In 1985 Diploma in Christian Ministry to train pastors in English at Dashen, it was later moved to Yola, the Adamawa State Capital in April 1990. As the seminary continues to grow, in 2007 Bachelors of Arts degree in Theology was introduced. In 2020 Master Degree Programme was introduced. As at 2020, the Seminary is 35 years old. It is affiliated to two reputable Universities; Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria for Diploma and the University of Jos for the Degree programmes respectively. The Adamawa State Government, particularly the Ministry of Education gave a recommendation for the affiliation of our Diploma and Degree programmes to Ahmadu Bello Zaria and the University of Jos.
The founding Fathers were, late Bishop Akila Todi. In particular Rev. Dr. Harvey Nelson from Evangelical Lutheran Church in America donated all his books to the library of the Seminary to start Diploma programme in 1985. First principal was late Bishop Phanuel Borkono Agongtara, and second principal was Bishop Willima Lautai to mention but a few. Today 90% of LCCN pastors are product of this great institution, Bronnum Lutheran Seminary.
Bronnum Lutheran Seminary was founded in 1951 by the Lutheran Church of Chirst in Nigeria.
The expansion and growth of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria and the demand for qualitative manpower in the church necessitated the need for the establishment of Bronnum Lutheran Seminary. The Seminary, therefore, exists to train quality manpower for the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, other Christian ministry and Christian community worldwide.
The Seminary since its inception has a story of optimism. It strives to be unique in the region. Bronnum Lutheran Seminary is the largest English speaking Seminary in West Africa sub-region. By God’s grace, with the introduction of Degree and Masters programmes in 2007 and 2020 respectively, the Seminary has recorded heart-warming accomplishment, with support by the Church, individuals, groups and partners. It has administrative autonomy and academic freedom. The Governing Council gives the Management the necessary support. Her admission is open to other denominations within and outside the country. We have received international students particularly from Cameroun and Sierra Leone. Currently, we have international students from Sierra Leone. We wish to acknowledge and celebrate the efforts of all previous Faculty and Staff members who have served the institution for all these years to make it what it is today.
